New Moons

I have always been intrigued by science and nature, so when I began my healing process, I honed in on understanding myself and relating to those things with meditation, yoga, and new moon celebrations. Each month has a new moon, and each month's moon is symbolic. I like to treat the new moon as some people treat the new year. It’s a way for me to hold myself accountable for the goals and intentions that I set.

Typically my daughter, my husband, and I like to have a small meditation. We pull some affirmation cards, read them, and talk about how that card is relative to what’s going on in our lives. We also like to make moon water, and this is also a time for us to clean and recharge our crystals. I love making moon water. It is fun and takes me back to being a child. It’s an innocence, excitement, and bliss that I love.

So when we make the moon water, we use jars and take water from our refrigerator, and we set an intention over the water. For example, the moon water I create to water my plants, I’ll send some good vibrations to it by speaking Blessings to hydrate and promote plant growth. I thank the water for all its nutrients, benefits, and uses. I thank God for creating the moon & water. If I am setting intention over water for myself, I speak about being more serious about my time off social media or being more intentional about doing more yoga practices- these are just examples. Whatever I want to put my energy into, I speak life over it into the water. We close the jars, allow them to sit overnight, and enjoy the water the next day. I like to make a couple of jars.

We also journal (my daughter & I), and we reflect on the previous month to see if anything that we desired came to fruition and if any of the goals that we set were achieved. A new moon is an excellent way to keep up with progress in your life. It’s a very cheerful little ceremony that brings you closer to whoever you’re doing it with and yourself, which is vital in growth and healing. It all falls to science. Science doesn’t lie, and science is a constant. We all feel the changes that revolve around us; it's just about taking the time to dive in, be still, listen, adjust and understand those changes and make them relatable to you. As the moon moves, we move with it- not physically- but emotionally and mentally. If you have ever heard people say they can feel the rain coming, that’s exactly the feeling the new moon can create.

I was initially skeptical and questioned the hell out of my sister. I know she got aggravated with me at times, but there is a fine line that you can cross between religion and spirituality, and I think I’m right in the middle of those two. With research, praying, meditation, and the more yoga I do, I will eventually find my place where I belong. But until then, I will continue to celebrate each new moon with gratitude and humility. I aim to have New Moon sessions incorporating meditation and a restorative yoga flow. See you on the mat. Love and light to you all.
